How to start your journey towards loving yourself
When I started my journey to wellness and self-love, I took the long road to get to where I am now. I guess it’s all apart of my own personal journey, but had I known the things I know now, it would have saved me years of ups and downs.
I eventually came to understand what it truly means to love yourself, and I came to understand that Self-love starts from within. The first and most crucial step in your journey is to heal your mind. We have all gone through some form of trauma at one point or another in our life. Some people are still recovering from the trauma that occurred in their early years of childhood, and they carry this hurt throughout their lives until they become an adult.
It’s important to dig deep and ask yourself some important questions, such as, what have you been through or currently going through that could have caused you pain and lasting scars?
- Co-dependency
- Anxiety
- Depression
- Fear of commitment
- PTSD (Post-traumatic stress disorder)
- Chronic insomnia
- Attachment Issues
- Still hurting from past relationships
- Controlling behaviour
- Trauma bonded
- Sexual insecurities
Maybe your going through or have been through something else that is not listed above. Whatever it is, when you begin your journey of self-growth, it’s important that your first priority is to heal your mind.
It’s important that when you begin this journey, you should consider speaking to a healthcare professional about getting some therapy sessions. If you’re not ready to take such a bold step, then start reading some self-help books, these books are so helpful, and they can help transform your mind until you have the courage to go to a licenced therapist. Or maybe if you’re lucky like me and you have a very close friend who is studying psychology, and they’re happy to use you as a test client, then feel free to seek their advice before seeking professional help. But, please always seek professional help; this will be the icing on the cake if you’ve already done the majority of the work on yourself. Also, another useful way to start healing from trauma is to listen to Podcasts and watch Youtube videos.
Something that I got into a few years ago that completely transformed my life, and my mind was meditating. I can’t express to you enough how meditating really helped me to learn how to calm my mind and also how to be more mindful and present in each and every moment.
Again Ladies, the first step towards being your best self is to really dig deep within yourself and understand your mind and your thoughts. Before you even start to worry about the external, take some time to reflect on the internal.
